February 13-17

Upcoming Dates and Events

Monday - No School - Unplugged Day (fill out your ballets and return them to the school Tuesday if you are taking part. The class can win a pizza party.)

Wednesday - Pink Shirt Day!

Our Week at a Glance:

Language Arts - With Valentine's Day on our minds, we discussed what character traits are and what what traits we could use to describe ourselves. The class then wrote a special trait about each student that we used to make personal heart shaped word clouds.

Math - We began our study of measurement by reviewing what the different metric measurements were and how to convert them from one to another.

Science -  Tuesday afternoon we completed an electricity Breakout EDU challenge. Students had to decode clues to unlock boxes and solve the mystery of Tesla's electrical inventions. The class was split into 2 groups and had 45 minutes to break in to cases. Both groups completed the challenge at exactly the same time with 2 minutes to spare. We also built and tested our electric burglar systems we made in shoe boxes. Some groups got creative and set up traps for some tricky burglars. Our science test on electricity and magnetism was today. Students will get their results back on Tuesday.

Health - This week in our bones and nutrition study, the class learned that these years (the pre-teen) years are the most important years to build bone health. Ask them what some bone building activities and bone healthy foods are.

Mental Health Day was a success. The feedback from the kids was all positive. Everyone learned different strategies they can use to support good mental health.

Art - The class continues to build on their Monet inspired collages for upcoming art walk in March. We have learned a lot about who Claude Monet was. Did you know that he didn't do well at school and he drove his teachers crazy because he would never do what was asked? The kids thought that was interesting.
