Our Week at a Glance:

Language Arts: Our week began with the class using Padlet to share their favourite holiday memories with each other. After discussing what folk tales, myths and legends are we read a folk tale about how the seasons came to be and began experimenting with creating visualizations to help us add detail to our writing.

Spelling: Spelling test results can be seen by clicking the spelling tab above and having your child log in to their Spelling City accounts. Next week's individualized spelling have already been uploaded for your child.

Math: This week we explored two strategies for multiplying 2 digit by 2 digit numbers. The first looks at breaking a problem into smaller parts and the second is the traditional way we all learned to multiply. I've explained to the class that since they have been exposed to both methods, they now get to choose which method works best for them as well as other methods they've been shown. What works for some may not work for others.

Science: We began our week reviewing short circuits, series and parallel circuits. After some play and discussion with magnets and magnetic fields, the class built their own electromagnets and had to change variables to try to make theirs pick up the most paper clips.

Art: Our current art focus is on the great Vincent Van Gogh and his incredible work. Thanks to Google Arts & Culture, we were able to look at some of his work so closely that we even saw the cracks in his pieces because he painted so thickly. After watching a short cartoon about his life and reading the true story about what inspired his sunflower work, everyone began drawing their own version of Van Gogh's sunflowers. We will continue with this project for the 2 weeks.
