Our Week at a Glance:

Language Arts:
-New spelling words have been uploaded onto Spelling City. Access the account from the tab above. Words will be sent home on Monday.
-Book orders were sent home and will be due back on Friday. Ordering is completely optional.
-Our writing focus this week has been on determining what is a proper and improper sentence, recognizing subject/predicate and writing our own proper sentences.
-Giving evidence from the book as proof of thinking is getting easier with each discussion for the class. Ask your child to update you on our novel study and tell you about the characters and their adventures. But when they do, ask them why? What happened in the book that would make you think the character feels that way, etc.

Math:
-At the start of each math class we practice our multiplication facts and students move up to new facts at their own pace. If you would like extra resources to help your child practice at home, please email me and I can send some home. As well, there are many math fact practice type games in the math links above.
-This week we practiced finding pattern rules by creating tables and building increasing geometric patterns with snap cubes. Our focus next week will be missing factors.

Science:
-Ask your child about the different types of precipitation and how they are formed. We also learned about what is condensation and through our ice water demonstration got to see it first hand. Our week ended with a more detailed look at the water cycle and how it all ties to the other concepts discussed this past week.

Art:
-With School Bus Safety Week coming up, our class has been preparing school bus safety posters that can be turned in for the upcoming poster contest. If your child would like their poster submitted for the contest, have them return the permission form I sent home this week signed before Friday.
