-I'd like to start by welcoming Miss Boyd to our class as a student teacher who will be with us until December 16th. We are really looking forward to getting know her and having her share her ideas and skills with us.
-The award winning educator and creator of all the fun math games we play, Jane Felling came and read a beautiful book about colour to our class on Tuesday. This visit was extra special to me because not only is she a guru in our field but she was also my first grade teacher.
-Connor did a great job presenting his Star Student board. Isaac will be this week's Star Student.
***Could you please send your child with 2 sheets of a light coloured poster paper.****
Our Week in Review:
Language Arts: This week we focused on the characters from our novel study and created life size cutouts of our characters that we will use for our character analysis. I'll definitely post pictures as they progress.
Writing - Tying into our study of weather in science, the class began writing their own version of Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs. So far we have written our bold beginning and began brainstorming for our body paragraphs.
Spelling - Your child's individualized spelling list has been posted to their Spelling City accounts. A hard copy will be sent home on Monday.
Math: Although we wrapped up our official 'Patterns' unit, these concepts will be integrated into all math topics through the school year. Please have your child return their test signed on Monday morning. Once I've seen the signature, I'll be sending them back home for the kids to keep.
Science: After learning about weather reporting, what information is included and what it means, students created their own weather reports by designing an avatar and publishing it using an iPad app called Tellagami. We also studied the different types of clouds and what they entail. Then students started creating their own labelled cloud scene which we will finish this week.
Art: Using coffee filters for a technique to make a cratered full moon, the class drew pumpkin patches with soft pastels on black. They will be displayed this week outside of the office for you to peruse.
