May 16-19 Weekly Update

Important Announcements:

-Bike Safety starts this week. Everyone must have a CSA approved helmet before going on a bike. Bikes can be stored in the school gym. Permissions need to be signed.

-Swimming registration is online.

-Thursday was the last week of home reading exchange. All books will be due back on Thursday.

-Soap stone carving is on Thursday. Consider this when choosing clothes for your child that day. It's not the cleanest art project.

I want to give a big thank you to Ms. Stacey for coming in each Thursday and helping the kids exchange their home reading books. That was a real help to me and I truly did appreciate it. If you received one of the blue letters, please do your best to help your child find their missing books so they can be returned to our classroom library.

Our week in review:

Math: We began our measurement study this week by learning to tell time to the minute, properly read and use a calendar and what a non-standard unit of measurement is.

Language Arts: Our phonics focus this week was contractions and how they can save us time so long as we put our apostrophe in the right spot. We also wrote silly stories in Google Classroom. Next week we are going to edit and revise our stories as well as include a few contractions.

Science: This week we studied what the differences are between a spider and an insect, the parts of a spider and learned a bit about the praying mantis. We bug hunted and one student even caught a wasp. Crazy! Needless to say, I waited until everyone was inside before I released it (and ran).
