We have been so busy doing so many things as we take on the last month of grade 2. Here are some highlights.
Math- We have been working on estimating the length and measuring different objects and even ourselves using non-standard units of measurement. Almost everyone has become a pro at telling time to the minute on an analog clock and we are building momentum on our recent daily math facts challenges. Some students have progressed from addition to subtraction already as well.
Language Arts - Our weekly spelling is done for the year. I will send final reports home shortly. Since our last update, the class wrote great stories about insects they created, a silly story about a kangaroo on a stage and a memorable celebration. Learning how to read non-fiction writing and pull information from text for research is our current reading focus.
Science - We launched our Boats and Buoyancy unit this past week. We have been researching, discussing and conducting experiments about the different types of boats and how they float.
We were lucky enough to find a cluster of spider eggs as well as a fresh hatch of hundreds of spiderlings. It was perfect timing as we had just learned about the life cycle of a spider.
Art - Everyone would have brought home their art portfolios by now filled with some beautiful work created throughout the year. Our most recent project is a surprise for the volunteer appreciations so I can't discuss (top secret).
