January 4-8th Update

Bloomz - In an effort to make it easier for everyone to sign up to volunteer for events or party foods, etc. I tried using Google Groups. But that didn't work like I'd hoped. So...I signed up our class in Bloomz. I love it so far. It is so much easier for everyone to see who is signed up for what and what is still needed without me having to keep sending out emails. Please do accept the invitation for this if you haven't already. There is even an app.

On that note, I still need some volunteers for skate tying. :)

Agendas - You may have noticed that I didn't sign agenda's each day this week. We are trying something new in order to save time at the end of each day and filling out all our agenda items on Monday's. If anything comes up after that, we will add it at the time. Please continue to check and sign agendas each night. I will continue to do the agenda draw at the end of the week for students who have all their signatures. If there is something pressing however, please email me.

Skating - Many studetns have yet to get their skating forms signed. We skate first thing Monday morning. Therefore, it is very important that you sign the permissions right away as I will not be making calls that morning. I may not even have a chance to check to see who still needs to submit. Students who do not have permissions signed will need to wait in the office until we return.

Remember, all students need to have snow pants and will be required to wear a CSA approved ice helmet. Bike helmets are not allowed. The school has some that can be borrowed so no worries if you don't have. This is the same for skates.

Math - This week we have been focused on counting money. We have been counting quarters, dimes, nickels and yes, even the old penny. This has been a great way to practice counting by 5's and 10's as well as learn an important life skill of counting money. We will continue with this next week.

Social Studies - Our January started with a review of the landforms, climate, location and bodies of water of our focus communities (Iqaluit, Meteghan and Saskatoon). This was followed by an introduction to our new focus of culture and what culture is. Over the next few weeks we will be looking more closely at the different cultural aspects of each of these communities.

***If you haven't already done so, please send an empty toilet paper role for a craft we will be doing.***
