Christmas Break Is Here!

We have had a very busy couple of weeks. Be sure to check the calendar tab above for important dates for our classroom.

You may have heard that Mrs. Ostenal is away on medical leave likely until March as she awaits her upcoming shoulder surgery. We all miss her very much already but were lucky to get a nice visit from her on Friday. In the interim, we would like to welcome Mrs. Dewer to our classroom. She has been a great addition to our class and I am excited to have the opportunity to work with her.

Skating: Please be sure to read the email I sent regarding skating very carefully. CLICK HERE for the skating schedule. Please keep in mind the following:
-Permissions need to be filled out prior to our skating days beginning as we will not have time to make calls that morning.
-Students will need to wear a CSA approved skating helmet. We have many (that are sprayed each night) that students can borrow if you don't have one for your child.
-Volunteers are needed to tie skates each day. As well, 2 adults need to be on the ice with each class and 1 off the ice otherwise we are not allowed to skate. Please let me know if you are available to help so I can confirm which days we will be skating accordingly.
-We also have many skates that students can borrow should they forget or not have their own pair.

Language Arts: Thank you for being patient as we have had to work out a few kinks in how we do our spelling testing. In the long run this will be much easier as I have differentiated our spelling lists to meet the needs of individual students and therefore have 6 different sets of words being used each week. Remember, you can check how your child has done on their spelling test each week by logging in to Spelling City using the spelling tab above.

Home Reading: Home reading is due back at school each Thursday. A big thank you goes out to Ms. Stacey for helping us each week with the book exchange. Please remember that it doesn't have to be just my books that are logged into the home reading log books. Any book your child is reading from home does count.

Science: We are short just one final activity before we wrap up our exploring liquids unit after the break and move onto Social Studies. This past 2 weeks we have conducted experiments and labs where we learned about:
- What dissolves in liquids and why
- Molecules, particles, states of matter and how to change them
- Viscosity and why some liquids move and spread faster than others.
- Surface tension
- Layers of liquids

Math: Concepts we have focused on include:
- Counting numbers to 100.
- Counting by 2's, 5's, 10's and 25's.
- Odd and even numbers
