Water Bottles: Just a reminder that students in our class are allowed and in fact encouraged to keep a water bottle on their desk so long as they are always sealed such as a Contigo bottle or a straw/sipping bottle. Please try to avoid sending bottles that have to be closed in order to not spill. Unfortunately we spend a lot of time wiping up water spills each day (and our 1 ply, brutal paper towel just can't handle the task ;)
Bus Safety: The class took part in bus safety this week. They practiced bus evacuations and proper safety and rules of riding the bus.
Language Arts: This week we expanded on our writing by practicing adding details to our writing by focusing on the small moments and including the who, what, when, where and why in our paragraphs. This week we are going to be using picture prompts to get ideas for writing and blogging.
Spelling Sorts: Your child will be bringing home an envelope in their agendas with a word sort and a letter on it explaining what your child is to be doing with the sorts. Please have your child keep their sorts envelope in their panga pouch or agenda so that they can be swapped out each week. Word sorts are individualized for your child and their spelling practice needs. Your child will be tested on their individualized list of words at the end of each week.
Word Wall: This past week, we started introducing words to our word wall. These words won't be tested. However we will be practicing spelling them through games each morning during calendar time. Words posted on the word wall are expected to be spelled correctly in daily writing.
Social Studies: The 4 communities we are going to be studying this year were introduced. Those communities include of course, Devon, Iqaluit, Saskatoon and Meteghan. The class looked at where each of these communities are located in our country and just how large and vast Canada actually is.
Art: This week in art we used mixed media to create beautiful fall scenes. Students created their scenes using pencil, sharpee, crayon and then water color. Since not everyone can come by and see them hanging outside the classroom, I will take some pictures and post them tomorrow.
