Thursday 19th- Spellathon test day
Friday 20th-Pledge forms with test mark written on the form will be sent home
Monday 23rd-Money for pledges due back

Spellathon - Please encourage your kids to practice their Spellathon words. Feel free to give them the extra push by sponsoring them. It is a great fundraiser for our school. Our goal is to use the money to improve our dying technology in the school (and to pay for the new projector that went into our classroom this week so we can run our Smartboard again.) All the words are on Spelling city as well as here on the blog under the 'Spelling' tab.

Math - We began our measurement unit by focused on relating the number of days to a week and the number of months to a year in a problem-solving context. We also took an extra step ahead and have been learning to tell time to the minute. Practice this with your child by asking them to tell you the time when they see an analog clock. In fact, have them tell you the time and write it in their agendas for this weeks agenda question.

Social Studies - Our focus for this week and the next was: What are the cultural characteristics of the communities (e.g., special symbols, landmarks, languages spoken, shared stories or traditions, monuments, schools, churches)? We wrapped up this exploration for the time being discussing the Acadians and on Thursday began discussing this topic focusing on the Ukrainian communities of Saskatoon.

Language Arts - We began a writing project creating a parody of the book, "Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs". So far we have looked at the style of writing in the book, named our town and began writing a bold beginning for our stories.

Art - We read a book called, "1+1=5" and began creating an illustrated page to create our own classroom book similar to this one.

Matthew was this week's Star Student.
