A look at our week:
Math: We have been using non-standard units of measurement to measure ourselves and various items in the classroom. We have been working to remember the order of the months of the year and singing a couple of songs to go with as well as playing games to help us. The class solved a tricky problem about how much money they would get paid if they were dog sitting for a neighbour and used a calendar to help them.

Language Arts: We continued to work on our Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs stories. I don't think they will be done in time for conferences but your child will be able to show what they have completed so far at least. Ask your child what they named their town and write it in their agendas for this weeks blog question. We also completed a persuasive piece on Tuesday describing why we do or do not believe in leprechauns. These are hanging outside our room for you to read.
Social Studies: The class has been learning about the different aspects of the Ukrainian culture in Saskatoon (as one of our focus communities). This week we are going to be learning about the different natural resources found in our focus communities and the jobs that are created as a result of each resource.
Zones of Regulation: This week I began introducing the Zones of Regulation to the class. The zones are an approach to teach self-regulation by helping students recognize how they feel and giving them a toolbox of strategies they can use to to get back to a calm, ready to learn or to solve a conflict. There are 4 zones (green, blue, yellow, red). This week we discussed the green and blue zones.
The green zone is a calm state. Words to describe the green zone are focused, content, happy, calm and ready to learn. This is the zone we want to try to keep our bodies in.
