May 5-9

In the Classroom:

ELA: May is Storytelling month. We will be working on story writing. We already wrote Pet Stories based on Marty Chan's True Story book. You may see these displayed somewhere in town! We currently have a Storytelling art exhibit at the school. We will view the art and use the pieces to tell stories. One writing activity we'll do is a collaborative story with the whole school, each class writing part of it!, which will be shared at the June assembly. In addition to writing activities, we will continue with guided reading groups during Daily 5 time.

Math: We have been looking at Patterns, specifically Repeating Patterns. This week we are learning about Increasing Patterns.

Science: We are studying The Water Cycle, Water Conservation, and Water Pollution. We will be doing a couple more experiments. Last week, we observed liquid change to gas, solid change to liquid, and our favourite: liquid change to solid (we made popsicles!), as we studied the 3 states of matter.

Social: Our last Flat Stanley arrived all the way from Quito, Ecuador; the highest city in the world! It was a very exciting day. Flat Stanley brought back many pictures with him. Our favorites were the ones of all the markets esp. the fruit,  and we enjoyed the views of the hills. We are sad this project has come to an end. It was so fun to receive mail and learn about so many different places across Canada and the World. We wrote Thank You notes and will be sending them soon (just need a couple more addresses).
