What did we do this week?

Math - This week we further explored 2D shapes and their many attributes. First shapes were sorted into various categories which the students created and had to explain. After we built 2D shapes using geoboards, clay and toothpicks. This afternoon we are using our Chromebooks to sort shapes into a venn diagram and define the pattern rules to accompany the diagram.

Build With Chrome - I've had some parents ask about how to get their child onto Build with Chrome at home since we completed our Lego House assignments. To access this app you will need to make sure you have Google Chrome downloaded. From their web store, the app can be downloaded for free. Please let me know if you have any questions or issues. If you haven't seen the project yet, they are hanging in the hallway and turned out very cool.

Language Arts - We continued to practice our learned reading strategies during our Daily 5 time. As well, we have been completing final initial for our, "When I Think of the Alphabet", project. Now that the planning is done, our next step is going to take all the creative words we chose and put them into sentences for our poems. It has been exciting to see the amazing work that has gone into their writing. This one's a keeper moms once the artwork is completed to go with (hopefully on Tuesday). I will be asking permission from a few parents to keep a scanned copy of the project (name removed of course) to be presented at a major teacher's conference in Texas this summer. I am so proud of how engaged they have been with this project.

Science - Our study of liquids is wrapping up this week by looking at ways that we can preserve our water and why it is so important to do so. This afternoon we are going to play a game of Liquids Jeopardy using the Smartboard.

Next week we are going to take what we have learned about liquids and start applying it to building good, strong boats that float. This project based learning inquiry will likely take us to the remainder of the school year.

Social Studies - Now that we have color ink again for our printer I was able to print off our Storyboard That projects the class created about the natural resources in their chosen region. Check out the picture below to see how they turned out or come see them for yourself hanging in our classroom.
