First off, big congratulations to Rachel on being our student of the week this week! Rachel always shows a positive attitude in class, is kind and caring to all students and has been showing great progress in getting her work done in time! Congrats!
As a class, we will be taking in donations of items for Operation Christmas Child. Each box goes to a child in need in Central and South America, Africa, Europe and Asia. Items can be specific to a boy or girl, ages 5 - 9. Ideal items include:
- Hygiene products, toothbrush, toothpaste, soap or comb
- School Supplies: paper, pencils, notebooks/pads, crayons
- Small toys, hair clips, socks, t-shirts
They do ask that items be non-perishable, if we pack playing cards they be Uno, or other games (standard playing cards are not received) and that there are no liquids or used items due to customs regulations. For more information on what to pack, or if you would like to create a box as a family here is the link for how to pack a box
Thank you for your donations they will make a difference to a child in need around the world. If you have any questions about Operation Christmas Child or would like to see videos of children receiving past gifts feel free to click the link.
In social this week we have discussed the last feature of maps to learn, which is scale. We mapped distances across Canada with paper clips and then "googled" the actual distance to find the scale of one paperclip for our map. As a wrap up for our unit we will be creating a 3D city map. We will be using our knowledge of maps, legends, compasses, and scale to create our class map.
In math we have begun to discuss the multiple strategies to solve problems and embrace our roles as mathematical thinkers. We focused on comparing numbers to 100 by using terms such as less than(<), equal to(=), or greater than(>) and using the appropriate symbols. We played a fun dice game to practice our math facts of adding to 18 and comparing the numbers.
Our stamina in Daily 5 is great! Students are showing great dedication to their work and working the whole time! With small groups we have been focusing on the urgency and pride in starting right away and getting our work done! Great job boys and girls!
Enjoy your weekend!
