At this morning's assembly we had another student of the week! Congratulations to Ryce!
Ryce is our student of the week because he is always giving his best listening in class and shows respect for himself and others!
We have been going batty in grade 2! We have created some BATerpieces in art, using describing words! As a class we came up with words that would describe bats based on what we have read and learned about bats so far. The results were great!
We have also started a bat research project. Last Friday as a class we researched bat information on the chromebooks and recorded our facts onto a planning map. This week we have been working on turning our notes into perfect sentences that include capitals, finger spaces, and proper punctuation for our All About Bats books. The focus of this project was to collect information from a variety of sources (online and non-fiction texts in class), record key facts and ideas in their own words, and examine their information and decide which information was valuable to share in their report.
This week in Language arts we continue to use Daily 5 time to build our reading and writing stamina! Our CAFE skill we are focusing on is Voracious reading, this means we Read! Read! Read! We discussed the importance of reading in our lives, how reading helps us grow as learners and exercises our brains! A healthy brain makes a healthy life :D
In our writing time we have learned how to make lists of things we are experts on. From that list we created a class set of topics for future writing times. Everyday we put aside time for free writing on topics that interest us.
In math we are starting our unit of addition and subtraction. We have discussed the differences between the two operations and when we use them. We have worked on becoming Math Problem Solvers! We have created and solved our own math problems based on pictures and prompts.
Social is starting! We have started exploring a variety of maps and what they are used for. We have discussed the parts of a map and how we read maps. Loking at a compass rose we can always remember "Never Eat Soggy Weiners!" for our cardinal directions, North, East, South, and West. Next week we will discuss symbols, legends, routes and directions.
