May 26 -30

It's biking week! Bring your bikes and helmets to school Monday morning.  There will be bike parking in the gym if students want to leave them for the week. Otherwise riding them to and from school each day works too! Our bike schedule is as follows, feel free to join us!

Monday 1025-11am
Tuesday, Wednesday,  Thurs. 8:35-9:10 am
Friday 11 am - 11 30 am

ELA: Daily 5, Guided Reading,  Spelling. Students have been doing some amazing writing projects during Daily 5 time.  All kinds of books are being created, puppet shows, plays,  chapter books, magazines, greeting cards, flip books.  All 100% the students' ideas. It's really wonderful to see them emerge as writers. I currently have one student who has informally started a fundraiser for the Stollery using a book she and another student has created. They have gone beyond simply learning to write a sentence and are trying to use their stories to help others. How cool is that?!

Math: We are doing a Math 'Daily 5'. Students are working on addition and subtraction through fact books,  chrome books use, and games with a partner.  We have also added on a problem of the day to work on problem solving skills.

Science: We ended the Exploring Liquids unit by playing a jeopardy game on the smart board.  Our girls vs boys game ended in a tie so we just may have to play that one again!

Social: We are doing a short social unit on resources and work in Canada.  We are also looking at jobs and careers in health.  I've also had word that a Flat Stella took a trip offshore Nfld.  The class will be so excited when she comes back this week!
