This week...
ELA: During our Daily 5 time, I will be conferencing with students on writing. We are looking to improve our writing in different areas such as: expanding our ideas, writing complete sentences, using capitals and periods, and adding details. This month students will also be doing the Star Reading assessment. Spelling words this week are s-blends.
Math: Students did a great job creating 2 and 3 column/row graphs. We sorted musical instruments, and graphed about ourselves (boys vs girls, if we had pets, liked soccer, and our favourite color). This week we will create and interpret pictographs. We also learned a game called 'Subtraction Salute'. It's fun to play with a deck of cards and 3 players. Ask your child to teach it to you!
Science: We are starting a science unit on Magnetism. This week we will be exploring using different kinds of magnets, discover where magnets are used in daily life, and perform an experiment to find out what is magnetic and what isn't.
Friday, January 17 is Backwards Day! Students are very excited to dress backwards, talk/walk/read/write backwards, do our schedule backwards, and whatever else they can think of to do backwards... on this day. :)
