Hi everyone! I'm sending a letter home Monday introducing myself, but I thought I'd post here too.
I am Kristen Kaluza, the new Grade Two teacher who will be covering Mrs. Angell’s maternity leave. I am an experienced teacher, a mom of three, and have been involved in the Robina Baker school community over the past year as a parent and volunteer. I am excited to continue my involvement in the school as classroom teacher and could not have been placed in a better class!
This week at a glance:
ELA: During Daily 5 time this week, I will be conferencing with each of the students. We will read together and set a reading goal. On Friday, Mrs. Angell introduced the class to Tumblebooks. The link is on the blog so you can access these stories from home too! Students enjoyed adding this site to their Listening to Reading time. Spelling words this week focus on the Long-a sound. We will be doing some Winter themed writing now that the snow is here!
Math: We are looking at Subtraction this week. Students will learn why order in subtraction is important, and we will learn different strategies to use when subtracting using snap cubes, counters, and number lines.
Social: Students completed a mapping project; they turned out great and are on display in the classroom! This week we will look at Canada as a place, learn more about the country we live in, and start a project to help us learn about other communities in our country.
Health: Students are making fire escape plans. They will bring them home so you can go over your family plan together. The theme this year was: Have 2 ways out!
Music: Students are practicing for the Christmas concert on Dec. 4th.
PE: Skating starts the week of Nov. 25th. The note will go home today. Please sign and return to school. Thanks!
I think that is all for now!
