Last Week of January Update

After a morning filled with Little People farm sets and Mr. Potato Head I thought I would take advantage of nap time in the Angell house to update the class blog for the week.

Language Arts: We spent last week exploring different porquoi tales. The class started writing their own version of how something came to be during our Daily 5 writing time. This week we are going to do some story writing using art work to help with ideas.

Math: We ended the week learning the math concept of multiplying 2 digit by 1 digit numbers and will continue with this concept for part of the upcoming week. We had a visit from Jane Felling were we were the first class to try out and work out the kinks of a brand new game. It is in the math packs that went home.

Science: Last week we launched our new theme, Wheels and Levers by learning about rollers and how they make work easier. We human log rolled down the hall, used rollers to drag students across the classroom floor from in a bin and set up a challenge to move a math book across our desks with rollers. We also discussed what friction is and how we can use it or reduce it to make work easier. This week we are going to start exploring wheels and axles by building our own cars and testing positioning of the axle on the wheel for the smoothest ride.

Other housekeeping?
-Pennies are being collected until Wednesday.
-If your child hasn't returned their signed social test,  please have them do so.
-The girls need  to return their signed permission forms (2 of them) for their camp and sessions with Riverview.
-I am going to spend time this week updating the links on blog for our new math and science units.

As always, I am only a visit or email away if you have any questions.
