April 10-15 Weekly Update

Please click the calendar tab for important dates and deadlines.

Thank you to all the students who have returned their home reading books this week.

Our Week in Review:

Math: This week we further explored strategies for adding larger numbers up to 100 which included using a 100 chart, counters and the traditional method. We learned an new math game using 30 sided dice and a 100 chart.

Language Arts: Students are learning to choose appropriate adjectives to describe nouns and using this learning to create alliteration poems. To help them, students have learned about synonyms and how to use thesaurus.com and how a dictionary is organized. Students were using both these tools to help with alliteration. This big but fun writing project will continue for approximately 2 weeks.

Our Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs stories are complete and have been displayed outside our classroom door.

Social Studies: The class explored more goods and services that are available in our focus communities as well as the natural resources at the heart of it all.

Art: The class looked at the work of Maud Lewis, an artist from Nova Scotia and created their own seascape scenes using various mixed media. They are currently under a stack of dictionaries flattening but once hung, I will post a picture.
