February 18-20

This week:

-Skating starts this week! See the last post for the schedule.
-Wednesday is pink shirt against bullying day.
-Assembly will be on Thursday this week.
-Just a reminder to all RBES families. This Tuesday night at 7pm is the Annual General Meeting for the School Council. We need to pass bylaws and elect an executive. School Council is the opportunity for parents and administration to work together in the best interest of the school. This is the place to share your ideas, thoughts and concerns. Please remind others.

Math: This week we began looking at story problems and determining if they are addition or subtraction problems and how to create the equation to go with. We also learned a new math game using dice and dominos to help us practice our basic subtraction skills. Depending on how things go this week with skating, I am hoping to wrap up our unit this week and move on to measurement. If not, it will be next week.

Language Arts- Tuesday was the 100th day of school. Can you believe it? The class did some brainstorming about what their lives would be like when they are 100 and what they would look like. Then they created their 100 year old selves and wrote about it. Check them out hanging in our hall.

Social Studies- Our Chicka, chicka 1-2-3 letters and numbers continue to come in. Each time one does we look at pictures of the community it came from and find it on a map. We discuss what things are like there and compare the community to one we have been studying in Social Studies. Thank you so much to Mrs. Bennet for creating our trees to add our numbers to a few weeks ago.

We have been discussing the word culture and what it means. We began by learning about the Inuit culture in Iqaluit. We started by learning about what Iqaluit looks like through the seasons and how the people adapt to prepare for such extreme temperature. This has a huge effect not only on how they live but also their culture and traditions. We also discussed the inuksuks are used to guide people. Write this in your child's agenda and they will get a prize. The most fun was had though learning how to speak some Inuktitut phrases and writing our names using the Inuktitut alphabet. Check them out below.

Serenity presented her Star Student board this week.
We learned that she wants to be a vet when she grows up.

Roen was this weeks Student of the Week!
Thank you to Mr. & Mrs. Wagner who helped out this week by reading with students and doing some other odd jobs. We hope to see lots of you out for skating next week. Remember you don't just have to tie skate. You are welcome on the ice as well! Bring your skates!
