Class Dojo- This week I introduced the kids to class dojo, a new teacher tool I will be using to help build student's learning habits and boost classroom engagement. ClassDojo allows me to track student behavior and learning skills throughout the day! One of the great features of ClassDojo is that it allows me to send you a "behavior and skills report" every Friday by email. My hope is that this will bring you and me closer together and help you better understand the progress of your student on a week to week basis.
Ask your child more about this and I am sure they can easily explain it. More information can be found at www.classdojo.com. On Monday I will be sending home letters with a passcode and instructions that you can use to see your child's daily progress. There is even a convenient app you can download. Dojo points get reset at the end of each week. If you are wanting to see sign on sooner, email me and I will gladly send you the code early.
Math- The class has been learning strategies for subtracting 2-digit numbers to 100. We will continue this in our short week ahead.
Language Arts- Each day we have been reading a "Have you seen my snowman?" description the class wrote last week. Students then try to guess which snowman from our wall is being described based on the interesting details the writer included. Words like cobalt blue and a hat the color of a lime have come up. Very exciting to see our little writers bloom.
Science- We experimented with different types of insulators to keep cold things cold and hot things hot. Don't forget that our ice cube insulators are due on Tuesday. We have also been learning how we protect our bodies from hot and cold temperatures. The week ended with a discussion of how animals adapt to extreme temperatures. Next week the class is starting a research project on the topic using Google Slides.
Spelling- It has been tricky trying to squeeze in our spelling tests on Fridays. Therefore I am moving them to Mondays before I introduce the new weekly words.
I hope everyone is enjoying their new agendas.
Our cold winter night paintings turned out beautiful.
Angeline told us all about her Vegas adventures as this week's Star Student. I guess what happens in Vegas doesn't stay there after all.
Our insulation experiment. We tested newspaper, cotton batting, a sock, fabric and tin foil. Ask your child which insulator worked the best.
Another huge thank you to those who volunteered to skate and tie skates this week. Thank you Mr. Henderson for organizing all the fun.
