June 2-6

This Week : It's Bike Week! We will be going for longer bike rides this week every day except Tuesday. On Tuesday, most of the students will be heading over to Riverview for Track and Field Day.

Wednesday is Early Dismissal, 2:15pm.

On Thursday, some of the 2AK students will be hosting a fundraiser in the foyer. This is a student initiative to raise money and hope for the Stollery. More info to follow.

In the Classroom:

ELA: Students have completed the Star Reading Assessment. We will be doing Guided Reading based on their current reading levels until the end of the school year. This is our last week for Spelling test. The remainder of the month will be a review of all Word Wall Words, plus the high-frequency words for Grade 2.

To support the student-created Stollery fundraiser, we are writing stories and making books to be given to the hospital and to anyone who makes a donation to the Stollery as a gift of thanks.

Last month, as part of the Storytelling exhibit that travelled to RBES, the school wrote a group story based on one of the art works.  We are practicing our storytelling skills including expression and voice, as we will be presenting the story at the school assembly June 13! Every class in the school contributed to this story: PreK to Grade 4.  It turned out to be quite an adventure! We are honored to share the story with the school community.

Math: Daily 5 math and Problem Solving

Science: New Science Unit!! It's an insect investigation! What a great time of year to get out and observe small crawling and flying animals! This week's  activity will include a nature scavenger hunt, creating an ant farm (Thank you to the Ott family!), and much more. Stay tuned.
