Surface Tension

In one of our experiments on Surface Tension, students tested to see how many drops of water would fit on top of a penny. With predictions of around 4, students were surprised to discover they could fit around 25!

Drop, drop, drop...

Finally a drop breaks the surface tension and the water spills over the sides of the penny.

Ask your child what happens to pepper on the surface of water when a drop of dish soap breaks the surface tension.
