ELA: During Daily 5 time last week, I conferenced with half of the students. This week I will conference with the other half. We are focusing on reading strategies and setting reading goals. There are some terrific readers in Grade 2! I am enjoying listening to the class share their reading with me. Spelling words this week focus on the Long I sound.
Math: We have been working hard on solving word problems in addition and subtraction. We've used many strategies such as drawing a picture, using counters, and using a number line. We played an adding/subtracting game using dominoes, and students visited the abcya.com website to have some fun with math. Try this site at home! This week we will be learning some Mental Math strategies to perform addition and subtraction equations.
Social Studies: The Flat Stanley project information was sent home Friday (black folder). On the left side, there is a letter enclosed for you to read. Following the letter is a page for you to write an address of a friend or relative that lives in a different part of Canada or even another country who would be willing and able to participate in our project. Your child does not need to do any of the worksheets in the folder for homework. Students do need to bring the folder back on Monday as we will be making our Flat Stanleys in class. Thank you for your assistance in helping make this project a success!
Music: One more week until concert week! Students are practicing almost every day next week.
PE: It's skating week! Bring your skates and helmets to school Monday. Thursday there is no skating. We will be doing Yoga in the meeting room. Wear comfy clothes.
Health: Our Grade 2 class is starting a 10 session program called, 'Pleased to be Me'. The letter and permission form for this will go home Monday.
**Reports Cards from Mrs. Angell went home on Friday.
