Important Dates:
Milk Orders - October 28th
Book Orders - 30th
Library Books Due - 30th
Student Led Conferences - Conferences will be held on November 6th from 4:00 - 7:00 (last showing at 6:30). I am not giving set times so you may come as you wish. I would suggest you give yourself at least 30 minutes for your child to showcase their learning to you. Therefore, I don't suggest you arrive later than 6:30 if you would like a chance to see everything.
Halloween Information - On Thursday morning we are going to be taking part in Halloween activities throughout the day. Activities will include the twoonie carnival, Halloween themed math centers/games, spooky writing, a costume parade and some fun Halloween games.
Students are to bring their costumes with them and will be given a few minutes to change into them at 12:45 before we go down to the costume parade. I can help them with their costumes but if special hair do's are required, I would suggest they come with their hair done already or have a parent come and help them at lunch.
Thanks to those parents who have already responded in regards to brining any special Halloween snacks in on Thursday. If you would like to send something with your child, please make a quick note by email or in the agenda so I can add it to my list.
As well, I stated in the email that there are 19 students in the class. However on Monday it I just learned it will be going up to 20.
Math - We learned about the 'greater than >' and 'less than <' symbols this week and spent some time comparing numbers. We also have been practicing more counting on from 25's, 10's, 5's, 1's. We are going to be wrapping up this math unit this week and will be moving on to adding and subtracting numbers to 18 next week.
Science - Students have been researching how animals adapt to hot and cold temperatures and creating slideshows to demonstrate their findings. This will be our final project for this science topic and then we are moving on to a new social studies topic the following week.
Language Arts - After reading the book, "There Was An Old Woman Who Swallowed a Bat" students wrote their own version of the story with illustrations. They are now in the process of learning how to use 'Voice Thread' and creating a digital story version of their writing. You will get an opportunity to view these at student led conferences on November 6th.
Art - Remember not to dress your child in their best clothes on Monday as we are going to do an art project involving black paint that afternoon.
