As April comes to an end I still can't believe how fast this school year has gone by. Thank you to all the parents that came out for student led conferences last week. It was a busy but fun night.
Math - Today we started our unit on measurement. I sent home a blue note today briefly outlining what we are covering in this unit and how you can help your child from home.
-Math packs are due on Friday so please remind your kiddo to be playing and logging the games.
-I sent home the math tests we wrote on Friday to be signed and returned back to me.
Language Arts - We started our spring poetry unit 2 weeks ago. So far we have been reading as well as writing our own synonym poems, limericks, rhyming poems and clerihews. This week we are going to start looking at Haiku and Tanka. The class has also been working in small readers theater groups and will be presenting their plays on Tuesday morning to each other.
-I posted the new spelling words. The test will be April 30th.
Social Studies - Last week we began our exploration of Alberta's routes. We have been learning about how the early trade routes were established and today set up a trading post here in the classroom. We recreated mini versions of the Hudson Bay and North West companies. Students traded pellets for goods such as needles, blankets, pots, etc. Tomorrow we are going to set up our posts again since we didn't finish today. We are also going to start talking about Alberta's Metis roots and completing a small project on the topic.
Art - We are finally starting our bottle cap project. Thanks so much to all those who have been bringing in bottle caps. I believe we have enough now. This is the first time we are trying the project so fingers crossed it turns out well. I am sure it will.
Friday is Crazy Hat and Glasses Day!
