Language Arts: The class is currently finishing up book clubs. They have been placed in groups of 3 and each group is reading a different book they will be presenting next week. This is always one of my favourite things to do in the year.
After we are beginning a fun little poetry unit (also a fave of mine.)
Spelling: New words have been posted here and on Spelling City.
Math: We are finishing up Fractions & Decimals and there will be a test either next Friday or the following Monday. Stay tuned for an exact date. Then we will begin an exploration of measurement. This will include telling time to the minute and 24 hour clock, elapsed time, calendars and finding the area of a space.
Social Studies: Our new theme is a study of Alberta's roots and history. Currently the class has been discussing our provinces First Nations roots. (If you are following text book wise, it is chapter 4). Next week we are going to move on to a discussion of the fur trade where we are setting up a trading post in our classroom, learning more about the fur traders and explorers who contributed to bringing settlers to the west such as David Thompson and the Metis people.
Phew! That's a lot of information at once! I will leave it at that for now.
