Welcome Back Letter

Dear Grade 4 Students and Parents,

Welcome to my grade 4A classroom blog. Please use this space to gather information about what we are learning in class, upcoming events and classroom happenings.

I would like to take an opportunity to introduce and tell you a little about myself. This will be my 4th year at Robina Baker School and my 11th year teaching with Black Gold Schools. I believe in continuing eduction therefore, I completed both my B. Ed and a Masters in Education degree and often find myself taking random courses and workshops. (So the kids aren't the only ones who get to complain about homework). I live in Leduc with my husband Lorin, our 2 year old daughter Taylor and our dog Charli.

It will be a busy start to the year as there are a lot of exciting events already planned for your child including a field trip to the Waste Management Center. Each month, all important dates will be posted for you to have at your convenience both on this blog and the school website.

Rather than teaching both social studies and science simultaneously, we are going to move to a themed approach in which only one subject will be studied at a time. For instance, we will begin the year exploring the science topic Waste and Our World. We will be spending our afternoons (aside from when your child has phys-ed, health, art or music) studying this unit until we have completed all outcomes. At this point, we will move onto a new social studies unit and study this in its entirety and so forth. This timetable will allow us to take part in more experiments and hands-on learning opportunities without being constrained to watching a clock and wrapping up quick to move onto other subjects each day.

Should you have any questions regarding your child or the events of our class, please feel free to contact me attarynne.angell@blackgold.ca. Be sure to check back at this site for updates on what is being covered each week in class and any upcoming events.

Sincerely,
Mrs. Angell
